At their annual Excellence in Construction Presentation at the Capitol Center for the Arts, held in
Concord on October 23rd, 2014, the New Hampshire/Vermont Chapter of Associated Builders and
Contractors (ABC) recognized Eckman Construction with multiple awards. Eckman was recognized with
an Excellence Award for their work at the Manchester Country Club in Bedford. The Bedford-based
construction management firm also received a Merit Award for the new Student Center at Manchester
Community College.
“We are very proud of what we were able to deliver to both the Manchester Country Club and Manchester
Community College,” said Preston Hunter, Vice President, Eckman Construction. “These project results
are really a testament to the collaborative effort of the architectural teams, project owners and
subcontractors that worked with us to achieve some really great facilities. This award belongs to them as
much as it belongs to us.”
The renovation of the Manchester Country Club was executed primarily during the winter, adding the
elements to the list of challenges associated with the aggressive schedule. Eckman first built a new golf
facilities complex which boasts an expanded pro shop, cart storage and training center. Starting on
January 2, 2013, crews worked to completely gut and expand existing areas to accommodate a new 300seat
ballroom, updated kitchen and food preparation areas, and a custom second-floor roof deck and
business center for members. Work was done, in stretches for seven days a week, and the 47,000 square-
foot Country Club renovation was completed on time in June 2013, in time for peak New England golf
season as well as allowing the Club to meet all of their scheduled event obligations for the summer. The
Manchester Country Club renovation was designed by Dennis Mires P.A., The Architects of Manchester,
NH.
At the Manchester Community College, the goal was to provide a new, energy-efficient student center
that students and staff would be proud to call their own. A highly-visible structure from Route 293, the
30,000 square-foot student center features a new kitchen and dining area, multi-purpose room with a
basketball court, fitness rooms, locker rooms, student offices, conference rooms, student meeting areas
and a unique sunken lounge area. A dynamic design, developed by Lavallee Brensinger Architects of
Manchester, blends a variety of open and closed areas with bright colors and modern finishes to give the
renovated space a “wow” factor.
This is the second consecutive year Eckman Construction was recognized. In 2013, Eckman took home
two ABC Excellence in Construction Merit Awards for completing the Academy Building at Pinkerton
Academy in Derry, NH and Union Crossing Apartments, an historical mill renovation into multi-family
housing along the banks of the Merrimack River in Lawrence, MA.
“To be recognized, during our 40th anniversary, is pretty special,” added Hunter. “Congratulations to all
winners and thank you to ABC for putting together this wonderful event that brings together the best in
the industry.”
